How to catch a Christmas Elf

You want to offer your children the magic of Christmas with the presence of a silly Elf? It is with pleasure that I take the time to explain to you the steps involved in catching a silly Elf. Don’t be in such a hurry to catch a Christmas Elf, Elves are only allowed to leave Santa’s workshop after December 1st,. They can arrive at anytime after that!

I insist on the fact that it’s important for you to include your child in the process. This will allow your child to get excited about catching a Christmas Elf.

FIRST STEP: Talk about the legend to Christmas Elves

Children are very curious! IA fun way to start the holiday season is by explaining to your kids the legend of Christmas Elves! I found a fun link that explains the legend very well: http://www.theholidayspot.com/christmas/history/elves.htm

SECOND STEP: THE ELF TRAP

There are several possibilities when it comes to building your Elf trap. It’s nice to do a family brainstorm in order to hear what your children envision for the trap. Here are a few ideas in case you need a little help with inspiration:

  • Make a gingerbread house with lots of candies in it! This is sure to attract the silliest Elf. Elves can’t resist candy and once a full belly, he just might fall asleep in your gingerbread house!
  • Take a recycled box (cereal box, beer case, soda box, etc.) and decorate it with nice bright colors!
  • Use a reusable grocery bag. Make it hold open with a stick and add a few snacks inside. Once inside, the stick will fall and the Elf will be trapped!

I thought it would be fun to share with you the result of our family Elf trap craft. But before, here is a list of the materials that we used:

  • One empty beer case
  • Construction paper
  • Shinny scrapbooking paper (I found it at the dollar store)
  • Cotton balls
  • Hot glue gun
  • Scissors

We chose to build a small coffee house to catch an Elf. A warm and inviting place that is ideal for meeting and chatting with others. This year, my kids are hoping to catch 2 Elves.

We elaborated a menu containing many delicious snacks that are hard to resist for Elves. Take a look at our menu:

  • Cookies
  • Croissants
  • Pies
  • Chocolate
  • Marshmallows
  • Hot chocolate

Also some nice windows to make it appealing!

You can also have fun while catching your Elf and take your time before catching it. It is not an obligation to catch an Elf on the first night you put out your trap. An Elf can come quickly, take a little bite of a snack you put out and be on its way. He can also start playing tricks and leave a bunch of crumbs on your balcony.

I propose that your chase lasts at least 2 days Your children will be even more excited when an Elf is caught!

Have fun catching your Christmas Elf!
